Hello English speaking world!
As some of you may know, this little project of mine started out in Dutch, since I’m from the Flemish speaking part of Belgium – yes, we have one of those, we don’t all speak French 😉 In fact, my French is horrendous. My apologies to French speaking Booknerds, I can cater for English, but you I can’t help. 😦 Maybe someday…
Anyhow, I noticed a lot of people from different parts of Europe and even America checking in, but leaving because they didn’t understand my language. So I figured, hey, you spent five years of your life studying English (I was in teacher training first, then I went to Uni to study journalism), might as well do something with it! 🙂
So here it is: the long overdue English version of The Booknerd’s Guide to the Galaxy. Or, as I call it, The Booknerd’s Guide. Welcome!
Please excuse inevitable mistakes, as English is not my first language. I’ve been told by native speakers that my English is pretty decent, but I’m bound to slip up from time to time.
For those of you who are wondering: No, this doesn’t mean I’m going to put an end to the Dutch version of the site. I’m going to translate some popular blogposts, but otherwise the two versions of this blog are going to be quite different from each other. For example, I don’t think you’ll want to know about small, far away events in Belgium, right? So I’m going to save those for the Dutch part.
Wow, I almost forgot to tell you what I’ll actually be writing about.
I love books, obviously, but I also like movies, tv shows (I’m watching, like, 30 at the moment… I don’t know how I find the time to do that. When I’m sixty I’m going to conclude that I spent 60% of my time reading, writing, and watching tv shows. Eh, there are worse things in the world.), cosplay, Disney and music. I’m into punk rock, mostly. My favourite bands are Fall Out Boy, Green Day and Panic! At The Disco. But I used to work for a youth magazine called ‘Joepie’, so the likes of Justin Bieber have no secrets from me. Also: I have a serious soft spot for Ed Sheeran. He is a lyrical genious and you can’t convince me otherwise.
I try not to talk about things I don’t understand, and if I do, I’ll be honest with you and make it clear that I don’t have a clue what I’m doing. I can promise you one thing: I won’t pretend to dislike things, just because they’re popular. I won’t automatically like things because they’re popular, either. I think it’s important to form an opinion of your own. That stuff’s seriously underrated, these days! My writing style is ‘train of thought’, so sorry if I sound like a five year old on a sugar high, sometimes.
The most important thing? I do this to have fun, and I hope to bring a smile to your faces as well! So sit back, relax and enjoy the galaxy!
Lots of love,
